A café that exists in everybody's imagination
Budou-no-ki (Fukuroi café)
"Because we opened this store when our oldest child was born, our children say "Our parents didn't take care of us." said the owner, laughing. The old school Japanese style spaghetti meat sauce is not like ones you see in Italy. The hot egg sandwich is crispy. "I don't do anything special. I just scramble eggs, spread them on pieces bread, and press on the sandwich toaster," says the owner. She brews coffee in a vacuum coffee maker. When the water boils, the coffee powder also floats up, so she presses it down with a spatula made of wood. When I asked her about the old spatula, she said, "It gets like this in about a year. It used to be this color." and showed me a new one. The aroma of coffee comes drifting in the air. Some regulars have been going there for 20 years. They sit at the counter seats and enjoy chatting over coffee, then go home. They can relax as if they are at home. The café that existed in my imagination when I was a child is still here.
Hot egg sandwiches and coffee brewed in a vacuum coffee maker. I read the newspaper while watching her work.
