A shack, a Tosa dog, and me
Ishoku Iyashi Dokoro Koya (Fukuroi izakaya)
I was wondering why they named the tavern "Koya" (shack), so I asked the wife of the taisho (manager). She said, "I like the idea of people getting together casually in a small shack. And I think it sounds nice. And..." She smiled. "The yasiho looks like a dog. Koya can mean inugoya (doghouse) too." She showed me a key chain with an image of the Tosa dog that one of the customers bought and gave to her as a souvenir, because the dog on it resembled the taisho. "See? It resembles him, doesn't it?" We laughed together. The sashimi of the day was tuna, yellowtail, red snapper, salmon, jellyfish, and the head meat of tuna. "Head meat?" I asked. The taisho said, "We have tuna cheek meat, as well as meat from the top of the head and side of the head. Some people come here only for them. And some who try them for the first time ask me, 'Is this meat?'" You can use either regular soy sauce or tamari (aged soy sauce). He said, "Because there is a lot of fat in it, regular soy sauce may not stays. "His wife said, "Fish fat is supposed to be good for our bodies, right? So I eat them a lot. "The simmered head of yellowtail is shiny and smooth. I wonder what draws me to simmered fish? Why do I want to order some white rice too?
The inside of the tavern is like a mountain hut. It has an interesting layout and warm atmosphere. Sit on the tatami mats and relax for a while.
