The night to meet your real self
Kominami-shouten (Fukuroi izakaya)
Because people can see the entire store right after they open the sliding door, you often hear people greet each other when they spot someone they know inside. Customers order one after another and waiters answer with good cheer. There are not only young people but older people as well. Inside the tavern, everyone looks lively and is smiling. The waiters wear stylish shirts of the sort that are usually worn at fish markets, they create a lively and refreshing atmosphere. One popular menu item is called "Oyasaibatake (vegetable field)." It is served in a bold style. They use a flower pot as a plate, and the vegetables are grown by the izakaya. One of the waiters once told the owner, "I thought okra grows underground." The owner heard this and thought that someone who serves food ought to know more about vegetables. He started growing vegetables to learn about them but found it to be enjoyable, so now he is really into it. The young men sitting next to me drink beer from gigantic beer mugs like I have never seen before. They laugh hard and drink heartily. A quote from Danshi Tatekawa is displayed at the store front. It is good to spend a night getting to know your real self every once in a while.
The staff are well-built, lively, and friendly as they go about work. Cheers to their cheery smiles!
